Screening for Plagiarism

JURNAL SINTIKA (Jurnal Sistem Informasi, Teknik Informatika, dan Sistem Komputer) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all published manuscripts.

To uphold these standards, every manuscript submitted to the journal undergoes a plagiarism screening before entering the peer-review process.

Plagiarism Detection

All submitted manuscripts are checked using reliable plagiarism detection software, such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or other equivalent tools, to evaluate textual similarity and identify potential instances of plagiarism.

The similarity report is carefully reviewed by the Editorial Board. Editors assess not only the overall similarity percentage but also the context and nature of the matched content.

Similarity Criteria

As a general guideline, manuscripts should satisfy the following similarity limits:

  • Overall Similarity Index: Not more than 20%
  • Similarity from a Single Source: Not more than 5%

These thresholds serve as general guidelines only. Editorial decisions are based on a qualitative assessment of the similarity report, and legitimate similarities—such as references, quotations, standard methodological descriptions, and commonly used technical terms—are taken into consideration.

Types of Academic Misconduct

The journal considers the following practices unacceptable:

  • Direct plagiarism
  • Self-plagiarism or duplicate publication
  • Improper paraphrasing without attribution
  • Uncredited use of figures, tables, images, or datasets
  • Fabrication or falsification of data
  • Citation manipulation
  • Any other form of academic misconduct

Editorial Actions

If significant plagiarism or unethical publication practices are identified, the Editorial Board may:

  • Request the author(s) to revise the manuscript.
  • Require proper citation or attribution.
  • Reject the manuscript before peer review.
  • Suspend or terminate the review process.
  • Retract a published article if plagiarism is discovered after publication.
  • Notify the authors' affiliated institution(s) when appropriate.

Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • The submitted manuscript is entirely original.
  • All borrowed ideas, text, figures, tables, and data are properly cited.
  • The manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
  • Appropriate permissions have been obtained for the use of copyrighted materials.

Authors are strongly encouraged to perform a plagiarism check prior to submission to minimize unnecessary delays during the editorial process.

Ethical Standards

JURNAL SINTIKA adheres to the ethical principles and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and supports responsible scholarly publishing.

The journal maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and all forms of publication misconduct in order to preserve the integrity, credibility, and quality of the scientific record.

Note

The plagiarism screening process is conducted before the manuscript proceeds to the Double-Blind Peer Review process. Manuscripts that fail to meet the journal's originality standards may be returned to the author(s) for revision or rejected at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
