Retraction & Withdrawal Policy

JURNAL SINTIKA (Jurnal Sistem Informasi, Teknik Informatika, dan Sistem Komputer) is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the scholarly record. This policy outlines the procedures for the withdrawal and retraction of manuscripts and published articles in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Article Withdrawal (Before Publication)

An article may be withdrawn before publication under the following circumstances:

  • The author identifies significant errors in the manuscript.
  • The manuscript was submitted to multiple journals simultaneously.
  • The author requests withdrawal for valid academic or ethical reasons.
  • The Editorial Board identifies serious ethical concerns before publication, including plagiarism, duplicate submission, or copyright infringement.

Authors wishing to withdraw a manuscript must submit a written request to the Editor-in-Chief explaining the reason for the withdrawal.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to approve or reject withdrawal requests, particularly if the manuscript has already entered the peer-review or production stage.

2. Article Retraction (After Publication)

A published article may be retracted when clear evidence demonstrates that:

  • The findings are unreliable due to fabrication, falsification, or significant errors.
  • Plagiarism has been confirmed.
  • The article constitutes duplicate or redundant publication.
  • Ethical violations occurred during the research or publication process.
  • Copyright infringement has been established.
  • The peer-review or editorial process was manipulated.
  • Serious legal or ethical issues require removal of the publication from the scientific record.

Retraction is intended to correct the scholarly literature rather than to punish authors.

3. Retraction Procedure

When a potential issue is reported, the Editorial Board will:

  1. Conduct a preliminary assessment of the allegation.
  2. Contact the corresponding author for clarification and supporting evidence.
  3. Consult reviewers, editors, or relevant experts when necessary.
  4. Make a decision based on the available evidence and COPE guidelines.

If retraction is warranted:

  • A formal Retraction Notice will be published.
  • The original article will remain accessible as part of the scholarly record whenever possible.
  • Each page of the article will be clearly marked as "Retracted."
  • The Retraction Notice will explain the reason for the retraction while maintaining fairness and transparency.

4. Article Correction

If errors are minor and do not invalidate the scientific findings, the journal may publish:

  • A Correction
  • An Erratum
  • A Corrigendum

instead of retracting the article.

5. Removal of Published Articles

Complete removal of a published article is considered only in exceptional circumstances, including:

  • Court orders or legal requirements.
  • Defamatory or unlawful content.
  • Serious copyright violations.
  • Risks to public safety.

In such cases, bibliographic information and a notice explaining the reason for removal will remain available.

6. Author Responsibilities

Authors are expected to:

  • Submit original and ethical research.
  • Cooperate with the Editorial Board during investigations.
  • Promptly report any significant errors discovered after publication.
  • Provide accurate information and supporting documentation when requested.

Failure to cooperate may result in additional editorial actions.

7. Editorial Responsibilities

The Editorial Board is responsible for:

  • Investigating allegations fairly and confidentially.
  • Making impartial decisions based on evidence.
  • Following internationally recognized publication ethics.
  • Protecting the integrity of the scholarly record.
  • Issuing corrections or retractions when necessary.

8. Ethical Standards

JURNAL SINTIKA follows the recommendations and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling:

  • Retractions
  • Corrections
  • Expressions of Concern
  • Publication misconduct
  • Ethical investigations

All editorial decisions are made independently, transparently, and without discrimination.

9. Appeals

Authors who disagree with an editorial decision regarding withdrawal or retraction may submit a written appeal to the Editor-in-Chief.

The Editorial Board will review the appeal and, where appropriate, seek advice from independent experts. The decision following the appeal will be considered final.
