Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

JURNAL SINTIKA (Jurnal Sistem Informasi, Teknik Informatika, dan Sistem Komputer) recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies can support research and scholarly writing. However, the journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, originality, and accountability in scientific publishing.

This policy establishes the appropriate use of AI tools in the preparation, submission, review, and publication of manuscripts.

1. Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted technologies (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grammarly, or similar tools) only as supportive tools to improve:

  • Grammar and language quality.
  • Spelling and punctuation.
  • Readability and clarity.
  • Translation assistance.
  • Code explanation or formatting.

The use of AI must always remain under the full supervision and responsibility of the authors.

2. Author Responsibility

Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • The originality of the manuscript.
  • The accuracy of all facts, data, analyses, and conclusions.
  • Proper citation of all referenced sources.
  • Compliance with publication ethics.
  • Any errors, omissions, or misleading information generated by AI tools.

AI-generated content must always be carefully reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors before submission.

3. Disclosure of AI Use

If AI-assisted technologies have been used in preparing the manuscript beyond basic language editing, authors should disclose this use in the Acknowledgements section or in a separate statement at the time of submission.

The disclosure should include:

  • The name of the AI tool used.
  • The purpose for which the AI tool was used.
  • Confirmation that the authors reviewed and take full responsibility for the final content.

Example:

The authors used ChatGPT (OpenAI) solely to improve the language and readability of this manuscript. All scientific content, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions were developed and verified entirely by the authors.

4. AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author

Artificial Intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot:

  • Take responsibility for the published work.
  • Meet authorship criteria.
  • Approve the final manuscript.
  • Respond to editorial questions.
  • Declare conflicts of interest.
  • Hold copyright.

Only human contributors who meet the journal's authorship requirements may be listed as authors.

5. Prohibited Uses of AI

The following uses of AI are considered unacceptable:

  • Generating fabricated or falsified research data.
  • Creating fake citations or references.
  • Producing manipulated images, tables, or experimental results.
  • Fabricating peer-review reports.
  • Submitting AI-generated manuscripts without substantial human contribution.
  • Using AI to conceal plagiarism or academic misconduct.

Any misuse of AI may result in rejection, correction, retraction, or other editorial actions.

6. AI and Peer Review

Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts, reviewer comments, or unpublished research into publicly available AI systems that may retain, learn from, or redistribute submitted content.

The confidentiality of submitted manuscripts must be preserved throughout the editorial and peer-review process.

7. Editorial Assessment

The Editorial Board reserves the right to:

  • Request clarification regarding the use of AI.
  • Request revision if AI-generated content affects scientific quality.
  • Reject manuscripts that violate this policy.
  • Investigate suspected misuse of AI technologies.

Where necessary, editors may use AI-detection or other editorial assessment methods as part of the evaluation process.

8. Publication Ethics

JURNAL SINTIKA follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in scholarly publishing.

Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to use AI responsibly while maintaining:

  • Academic integrity.
  • Transparency.
  • Accountability.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Scientific accuracy.
  • Ethical research practices.

9. Policy Updates

As Artificial Intelligence technologies continue to evolve, JURNAL SINTIKA may update this policy to reflect international best practices and emerging ethical standards in scholarly publishing.

Authors are encouraged to consult the latest version of this policy before submitting their manuscripts.

JURNAL SINTIKA welcomes the responsible use of AI-assisted technologies to support scholarly communication. However, AI tools must not replace human intellectual contributions, scientific judgment, ethical responsibility, or authorship. Authors remain fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and reliability of all submitted and published work.
